4.11.08
OKOTO Apparel, Jay Alders and Sundreams Productions present ZIMZALA, a one of a kind music and art charity event held at the Jersey Shore. This year's event will be held in honor of Surfaid International.

SurfAid's mission is to improve the health of people living in isolated regions of the world connected to us through surfing.

ZIMZALA's mission is to help raise funds and awareness for SurfAid International on the East Coast, while respresenting all the great artists, businesses and culture this area has to offer. With Chance auctions, Silent auctions, a 50/50 and ZIMZALA merch, we plan to help support SurfAid International by donating 100% of the proceeds.

ZIMZALA will take place at The Headliner in Neptune, New Jersey. IT WILL BE AN ALL AGES SHOW, with alcohol available to those of age (proper ID required). There will be art and photo exhibits, and food provided by Surf Taco.

ZIMZALA will feature four incredible music performances from Ted Hammock, Shoreline, Echo Movement and Paula Fuga (Oahu North Shore native best known for her performances with the legendary Jack Johnson).

Ticket price: $15 pre-sale. $18 at the door.

Check out The Zimzala.com for updated information.

ACTION EXPO in AC

show

3.16.08
Last week we were down in Atlantic City for the Action Expo. It was a fun couple of days - catching up with old friends and making new ones, like our boy Micah from ProLite and James & Krissy from exboard, partying at the ridiculous indoor pool at Harrah's, and of course, doing business. It was a great way to get a lot accomplished. We gained a couple new accounts while we were down, so keep checking back for updated lists of our retailers.

ROCK AND WRAP IT UP BENEFIT in NYC

with ALO, Jackie Greene, OKOTO apparel & Jay Alders

show

1.28.08
Last Thursday was a night to remember! We were honored to be a part of the Rock and Wrap it Up benefit. Rock and Wrap it Up is an incredibly awesome non-profit that's been around since '94, finding innovative ways to help fight hunger and poverty in America. It just so happens that one of the ways they raise money is by hosting amazing shows and concerts, like this one on the 17th at the Highline Ballroom in NYC, with Jackie Greene and our friends, ALO.

OKOTO donated gift certificates to be auctioned off that night. It was great to help such a wonderful cause, all the while getting to enjoy the intimate atmosphere - eating, drinking and dancing with great friends and talented musicians.

FROM SAND TO SLOPES

The Orlando Surf Expo was pretty crazy! We got down Thursday afternoon and hung at Cocoa Beach. But, the next three days were spent walking through the expo, meeting tons of great new people (like Greg Noll !), catching up with friends and researching everything we could to prepare ourselves for getting in on the action next year.
Nights were just as busy as the day, grabbing food and bar hopping at great local spots like Cafe tu tu Tango's and Adobe Gila's.

Then, 8 hours after getting home, Joe and Mike headed out to Vermont, for Mike's firehouse's annual trip to Killington. The conditions were perfect with fresh powder and great visibility. After riding and repping all day, it was time to party and chill out at night. But not until coming home for yet another event ...

WHAT'S NEW WITH US ...

catalog

12.9.07
So we've been hitting up the many surf shops all over our coast. Jersey stores are full of good vibes ... every owner and manager we've spoke with has been super cool. You can expect to see us in many new shops this upcoming season. We're so stoked ... all this hard work is paying off! We've also booked our flight to Orlando for the Expo ... though we won't have a booth there, we'll be floating around, hanging with friends and checking everything out. So, if you see us, say hi!

Last Monday Jeff Edelsteindid a write up for us in THE TRENTONIAN. He's a super cool guy who loves Thailand. We showed him around the shop, ate grapes and talked for some time ... the result was a sweet article about OKOTO's mission. Thanks Jeff!

JAY ALDERS JACKSON SHOW

cut lip

10.02.07
Ok, if you live on the East Coast, and haven't been to Surf Taco yet, we don't know what's wrong with you! :) The food there is as awesome as the atmosphere. Though we go all the time, we've never been to the one in Jackson, which is amazing. It's got a bar (niiice!) sitting happily under an Alex Lanau mural and is two stories with a lounge upstairs. Jay's art was upstairs, with his newest piece, "Cut Lip" attracting much of the attention. Of course we knew his show would be a success. So many people were hanging around, talking about his work. His prints were selling like mad, and as always he was making his way through the crowd talking with everyone. If you haven't made it to one of his shows, try to get to the next one. They're a super good time.

SUMMER HAZE TO SMALL FALL

Summertime and the livin's easy! Maybe, anyway. It was a bit of a hectic summer for us, but we've got a lot accomplished, on both professional and personal levels. Mike is now done his prereqs for becoming a paid fireman, so good luck to him on getting in a house and making that money. We are now out with our Fall & Winter line. We know it's light, a smaller line than we've ever done. But, for many reasons, we are using most of our resources on putting out a pretty big, kick ass, summer line. In the meantime, we've been hitting up different spots to share the love, like The Summer Haze Tour at Penns Landing in Philly. Ozomatli made their way into the crowd, like they always do, and afterwards, Amy was chatting up Shef. Before we knew it, he was asking her to hold his trombone and took off his shirt to throw on the 3 line! Good stuff, man, good stuff. This past week was one filled with meeting some of our favorite artists: Alex Lanau at the Belmar Pro, and Jay Alders at the AC Action Expo. If you don't know who they are yet, check them out, because the work they do is amazing, and definitely inspiring! So now we're back. Hit us up with any comments whenever you feel like it. You know we love hearing from you!
